Fix by Force

Read in June' 13
Read for: Review, A-Z Challnege + Universal TBR
My Rating: 3.5 Quills
Fix by Force was a short book with writing that makes you want to read it. It had that fluency that could make one sit and finish this book once started. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay heed to the sound of this book calling me and had this book set aside when I did start reading it at first. I don’t quite recall why? Anyway, I picked this book again this June and finished it.

This book was told from Spencer's perspective and his life was a difficult one. He lived with his mother who was a drunk and his school life was filled with a bully on his soccer team. When a scholarship falling was in line only then did Zack give a break to the bullying. It was peaceful but then he found things left behind by his dad- a gun and some other things- drugs in his basement room along with an album. Then when a bad episode happens at home he runs from there and gets into an accident with none other than his bully. He helps him out but not really. He gets expelled and gets enrolled in a delinquent school and starts living with his uncle. He starts feeling bad about himself. For the same reason he got expelled, he starts doing them, he wasn’t doing them in the first place. This shows that society makes criminals. A society without really knowing the full story starts making their assumptions and forces individuals to make choices they wouldn’t have made in the first place. Anyway, things get outta hand and he is fighting for his life.

Bullying was how it all began. His hate for himself- he wanted power to squash those feelings of hatred. He wanted hope to get a hand on his wants. I wanted to keep reading the book to find if he would have the same conclusion all the other takers have. I knew it could only be death. If not, then some other disastrous fate. This book made me feel the emotions he was feeling. I could feel his despair. And I wanted to go shake him and tell him that he was worth it and to stop taking them. Self-loathe was the epicenter and I hated it. I liked that he made friends in the name of Satchel and Janelle.

The storyline was serious. The pacing in this book was great. The characters made a mark .I gave this book 3.5 stars because being a book about steroids I wanted to keep on reading but then I didn’t want to read the book anymore as it was harsh and saddening. It was a story with a moral. You have to read it to find out.

Will I recommend this book? Yes.

I would like to thank the author for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.
